weird

Weird…when I got home, the camera had locked itself up (probably because of the CRON job I initiated). But when I reset it, it reset to an IP within the DHCP of my Linksys router, like the people from Linksys told me not to do because it wouldn’t work. And it seems to work.

Whatever. It’s busting again. Have fun.

It looks like I either

It looks like I either knocked the camera offline by initiating a bad CRON job, or the DCHP lease on my cable modem wasn’t renewed. Either way, it’ll be offline until I get home to fix it.

I was trying to get it to take a picture every second for a minute, and then send me the results. Around the time the job was supposed to start, shit started slowing down. But I seem to remember the DHCP lease would be up right about now, maybe. Weak.

new archive

Okay…so I changed up the 24-hour Webcam archive. It’s now done in PHP, and it checks against the server to see if the image is from yesterday or today, and it displays TODAY or YESTERDAY depending on when the photo was taken.

I hardly ever code in PHP…took me awhile to put this together. Yay.

Seriously worked today. Managed to

Seriously worked today.

  • Managed to step myself into some shit on my right shoe. Was wandering around office all morning like, “What the fuck is that smell?” Spent 20 minutes in bathroom with pencil, scraping shit off and cleaning shoe with handsoap.
  • Webcam got worked for awhile, although it managed to come back. It’s looking pretty nice so far.
  • Lost an Ebay auction for the auto-iris lens I need for the rightonbro Webcam. Now, I’ve *never* won an Ebay auction before. I always lose to some fool who jeeters in at the last minute, and raises the bid by like $10. The rush of Ebay feels akin to gambling, except I’m at home saying “wait, this lens isn’t worth that much, screw it” instead of “what the hell, I’m in Vegas, I’ll put down my last dubski.”

At least my folks seem OK in New York - talked to my Mom for a bit, and even though they don’t have power, they’re OK.

Speaking of Vegas…I was supposed to go this weekend to see my friend perform, but I’m behind on some shit, so I’m staying here. Nice work. I’m sure I’m going to be kicking myself on Saturday night, asking why the hell I wasn’t there. Nice work again!

It looks like the wind

It looks like the wind blew in my apartment, and one of the miniblinds moved and covered up the camera lens.

Nice work!

from CNN article on the

from CNN article on the California recall election:

“Like you, I’m most interested in seeing how the process evolves,” Bush told reporters. “It’s a fascinating bit of political drama evolving in the country’s largest state.”

Umm, isn’t California the 3rd largest state (Alaska, Texas)?

So the President of the United States made a factual error about his country…so what?

webcam

I’m pleased to announce the re-launch of my webcam! Click here for the regular version, and click here for the Java version (need browser that supports Java, and high-bandwidth connection).

I snagged an old Axis 200+ Network Camera from work. You’ve probably seen them at work back in the day, when radio stations would have webcams of their DJ booths, or whatever. The cool thing about the Axis is that it has its own built-in web server, so unlike traditional PC Webcams, I don’t have to keep my PC running to broadcast. This thing was a pain to set up, since I don’t know anything about dynamic DNS hosting…but now I do, I guess.

If you have a cheap auto-iris lens for this puppy, let me know….I’m afraid that since my camera points to the east, the CCD is going to get worked tomorrow morning when the sun comes up. We’ll see.

It’s hot as balls here in Los Angeles. I’m sitting in my own apartment, sweating like some kind of dickhead.
