okay
So I was supposed to be in Vegas right now. I’d probably be getting up right about now, getting ready to go out for the night. Instead, I am at home waiting for somebody to deliver me a cheesesteak.
We cancelled the trip due to overload at work, and also because we didn’t want to get burned up on the way over there.
Even though it was a good week, I feel worked.

I ate from the library of frozen food for the first time tonight. It was OK.

I won free dinner last night at Hennessey’s Tavern in Manhattan Beach, so I feel obligated to do a plug for them:
EVERYONE GO TO HENNESSY’S! THEY’VE GOT GREAT BURGERS AND BEER AND FUN!
Stay away from the salmon though…it wasn’t that good, and I’m glad it was free.
I have to say that after almost a week of having the air purifier, it makes a major difference. I sleep a LOT better with it on.

The air outside is pretty sick today due to the fires going on east of here. It looks like it does on some of the worst smog days I’ve seen here. I closed all of my windows and bought an air purifier. It seems to be better in here so far.

Played a show at the Hub with this band in Fullerton. That place is crazy! I don’t remember ever having such of a scene of a hangout when I was in college. It was totally packed. Even though the audience liked us, I felt really old. We played really well (a hell of a lot better than we did at the last show at the Joint), except I stomped on one of my pedals too hard and unplugged myself during one song.
After having listened to the other bands, I think I have a good handle on what the phrase “Orange County sound” means. I mean, I was generally familiar with what it meant just by listening to KROQ, but I guess being there was kind of like eating Chinese food in China or something.
I guess that means this band that I play with has the “East Los Angeles sound.”
I think Fullerton is near the fires - when I got back to my car after playing, it was covered in a fine layer of ash, and you could see more swirling through the air.
So today was the Halofest, too. Apart from one dude who kept complaining about wanting to play Slayer mode all of the time, it was really, really fun. I’m getting better at the Xbox version each time.

I’m staying in tonight. Wednesday night really tripped up my ass. Laundry, bills, ordering books from the library (thanks for the recommendations).
This weekend is Halofest, which should be pretty cool. I’m also playing with this band at the Hub in Fullerton on Saturday night. Sunday’s gonna be another chill day.
Dope.

Amazingly, things went fairly well today at work. I’m suspicious of the working around the corner, though.
So…I need your help. I need recommendations for books to read as I have pretty much found the Amazon.com recommendations engine to be not so good these days. I am totally in the mood to read but haven’t seen anything appealing lately.
Favorite books:
- Ender’s Game, Orson Scott Card (read entire series already)
- Microserfs, Douglas Coupland
- Snow Crash, Neal Stephenson
- Tom Clancy (read all of them though and am tired of re-reading)
- John Grisham (read all of them though)
- The Man with the $100,000 Breasts, Michael Konik
- The CSI series (quick, fun reads, read all of them though)
Note: I refuse to read Dave Eggers. I got to like, the first two pages and I stopped.
Thanks. I’m going to go watch CSI and then go to sleep now.

Last night’s supposed quick-stop-and-a-beer at a Hollywood club to see my friend DJing there turned into a fairly solid self-working. When I get enough coffee in my system, I’ll get around to saying “Nice work!”
Update: It turns out that yesterday I was celebrating International Caps Lock Day and didn’t even know it. Nice.
