Tabbed Browsing in Firefox
Can someone explain to me what’s so allegedly cool about the tabbed browsing feature in Mozilla Firefox? You can do the same thing in any browser, by opening a new window, and it goes into the Windows taskbar, and then you have a bunch of windows to select from there. They don’t look like tabs, but they perform the same UI function - displaying a series of clickable objects that contain the pages you’ve requested. Whether those objects are at the top of the screen or the bottom of the screen, it’s essentially the same interface. Either way, you have to right-click on a link and select “Open in New Window” or “Open in New Tab” on either browser. It’s the same amount of work you have to do to navigate through multiple pages. What makes it any better than using the Windows taskbar?
Personally, I hope the next revolutionary browser is one that interacts directly with my head by feeding the visuals straight into my brain. That way I can stay in bed, lie the way I want to, and still surf the net.

I don’t use Mozilla, but there WOULD be a difference if I did, and if I used tabbed browsers. Using the windows taskbar requires you to navigate more screen real estate to toggle between windows, whereas the tabs allow you to work within the confines of a pre-configured amount of space. Especially if you’re working on a sized, not maximized, window which I think most people do, including you. Would you prefer to have the carafe on your table when you refill your cup of coffee, or would you want to get your ass up every time to the kitchen to fill up your mug? Sure, both are approximately the same action and lead to the same results, but one takes more effort than the other. Order me a pizza over the internet and hand me the remote control I don’t want to get up.
Tab browsing is the shit. Been using it for years on the mac version of IE and its about time I can do it on a windows machine. Lets say you are doing some research on guitars. I want a Fender and I want a fucking Gibson. You open up two browser. One browser has all Fender tabs, the other all Gibson tabs. Doing it your way requires me to have to shift through too many windows just to find the info I am looking for. Get away from the demon microsoft and move to the darkside young jedi - MOZILLA
ctrl-click the link to open it in a new tab - sucker!!!
