Cali Should Be Famous, Soon

Today I bought an advertisement on Metafilter.com for Cali’s camera page. It should hopefully start running soon. Mmmm hmm.

Worked…Worked…and, Worked

Yesterday I played in a $5 + $.50 tournament at UltimateBet. After battling back from 300 chips, and then from 500 chips, I came in…4th, just below the money spots.

Went to my cousin’s house in Northridge to play Halo 2 and immediately got motion sickness for some reason - which is weird, because I’ve never gotten it before. It felt like I was on a roller coaster that wouldn’t stop and there was a 12-year old kid operating the ride and making it go faster with a big evil grin on his face. I stuck it out for two and a half hours, and managed to whip a lot of ass anyway, primarily because I was the only one there who had Live and therefore knew all the maps and weapon placements.

Through all that, the small headache that I’d had all day got worse. It was one of those ones where you’re like, “Goooood, make it stop.” So I went home and laid in bed going, “Goooood, make it stop” until I finally fell asleep. Ended up skipping the poker game last night. It seems I am destined to never attend this particular game. I’ve always dissed, or it’s been cancelled. I guess the best way to make sure I’m not in attendance at your particular event is to have Chris schedule it and call it a poker game.

Weak.

Weekend

It’s Friday, yay! I haven’t really thought about weekends much over the past few months but this weekend, I am. I’m gonna kick off the jams on Friday night by - hold your breath folks - staying in. Got some fish at the store, gonna cook it for dinner. Saturday is a Halo 2 LANparty at my cousin’s house, followed by a poker game at night. Sunday is probably working some.

I finished the second season of “24″ this week. It was pretty good. Regul is going to kill me for this but - I think they could get rid of the entire Elisha Cuthbert storyline. She’s sooooooo annoying. Hot, but annoying.

My fingers are cold.

Early Day Miners

Last night I went to go see Early Day Miners at the Knitting Factory’s AlterKnit Lounge. I’ve wanted to see this band for years - they’ve been around for awhile but this was their first time playing in Los Angeles. Their first album, Placer Found, ranks as one of my favorite CDs of all time. Anyway, the show was good. That is all.

Plug

One of the movies I worked sound on last year is going to be screening in a couple of weeks:

Robin Harris: We Don’t Die, We Multiply
Sunday, February 13
4:30 P.M.
Magic Johnson Theaters at Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza
4020 Marlton Avenue, Los Angeles, CA

It’s part of the Pan African Film & Arts Festival. I don’t know what the admission is yet. When I find out, I’ll post.

Not sure if I’m going yet, but if you like Robin Harris or want some stories about Black comedy in Los Angeles in the late 80s/early 90s, this is a pretty cool film.

Weekend Update

So, I am up to 11 A.M. on the first day of “24.” This is one of the best TV shows I’ve ever seen, and having the DVD set only heightens the experience, because I can watch a gangload of episodes at once. I hope that this kind of viewing model eventually replaces the current model of weekly episodes. There’s too much shit that goes on in modern life in between the weekly episodes that affects my opinion of shows. For instance, if I’m watching six straight episodes of “Lost” in a row, and episode four happens to suck, it doesn’t matter. Whereas, if episode four sucks in week four, I’m gonna be just thinking that “Lost” sucks all that week, and I might forget or go decide to do something else instead of watching “Lost.”

In other words: Please give me the video equivalent of crack, whenever I want it, and for as long as I want it. Thanks.

Went out to karaoke last night in Koreatown and for the first time participated in buying those $150 bottles of booze that costs $20 at the grocery store. Two, in fact. Not to say that I didn’t have a good time, but that will also be the last time unless I’m guaranteed to get laid or something, thank you very much.

Just waiting for the chicken to get baked, and then it’s time for another 24 marathon…

Can’t Do It Like I Used To

Last night I went to 81st Street to play poker. Regul and Brian kept feeding me drinks and I got quite drunk. I ended up leaving at 3:30 in the morning and went to sleep sometime around 5, having been up for 24 hours.

Today I feel like crap. Ended up getting up late, working for a couple of hours, sleeping for a few more, and then cranked some work out this evening while watching “Lost.”. I guess I can’t do it like I used to. I think I’m going back to sleep soon.

Poker-wise, I finished higher than I’ve ever finished, but still not enough to be in the money. I’m learning though, which is cool.

Toby or Jon lent me the first two seasons of 24 on DVD. I can’t wait to watch them but I have to wait for the weekend. Who am I kidding, I’ll probably break them open tomorrow, but we’ll see.

24 is a Hoot

Just got done watching last night’s episode of 24. The ending was hilarious. I think after five episodes, I’m beginning to understand the essence of the show. You can always predict what Jack Bauer does, because it’s the opposite of whatever everyone else on the show wants to do.

“Jack, don’t go raid that compound full of terrorists by yourself. No, really, I mean it.”
[SILENCE]
“Jack?”

Love that shit.

Back to work. I wonder if they’ll let me take TV breaks at my next job…

Monday, Monday

Spent yesterday hanging out at 81st Street, playing Halo and what not. Toby and Jon are my booze dealers. Also went to CBS Seafood in Chinatown on Saturday. Yum yum, dim sum!

The cat webcam was busted for a real long time due to some things which I won’t talk about, but now it’s fixed. You can leave comments and save images again.

I haven’t done jack shit all day.
