Chinese Soul Food
I stopped by this Chinese food place on Venice Boulevard on the way home to pick up some dinner. I saw it awhile ago because it’s across the street from a Subway that I go to sometimes, and it looked like a good hamshack to go to.
As it turns out, they used the restaurant in a scene from Rush Hour 2. It’s the part where Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker go to meet Don Cheadle and his Asian wife - the “Chinese soul food” place. They swapped out the signs but they shot both inside and outside. There’s pictures of the owner and Jackie Chan, and the owner and Don Cheadle, and some stills from the movie on the wall. Pretty rad.
Oh, and they make good chow fun, too. I’ll be back. If you want to go check it out, it’s called Canton Kitchen, I think. On Venice Boulevard one block west of Centinela. Take-out only - there’s nowhere to eat there, and they make food to order (unlike the pre-cooked stuff you get at the cheap Chinese joints), so plan accordingly. (And in case you haven’t gotten it: They serve Chinese food, not Chinese soul food.)
