Scrape Scrape Scrape

I built a very rudimentary Web scraper so I can keep track of what’s on the brokencandy forums without having to actually go there.

I put it on the peeps page for those of you who are using it (I think Matt does).

Yes the page looks crappy. No I don’t care. Enjoy.

The Summer TV Doldrums

This upcoming Wednesday is the end of the regular TV season. With the 2-hour season finale of Lost, none of the shows that I regularly watch are going to be airing new episodes until the fall.

I’m feeling pretty apprehensive about that. I like to have a stockpile of unwatched TV shows to fill up times when I’m like, “Hey, I think I’d like to watch some TV.” Because, even with cable TV, channel-surfing just plain sucks. We have like 200 cable channels, including HBO, and I can never sit down, surf around, and find something I want to watch.

But now, with the TV seaon ending, that stockpile is going to be gone very soon. Like, probably by Friday. Leaving me with about six months without Jack Bauer.

How should I fill my free time? Do I actually have to, maybe, read a book, or go outside, or something? That frightens me.

Tempus Fugit

May is half over already. I’m making good progress on Project #1 so far. I don’t think I would have been able to do this had I been working full-time.

Saturday, I took everyone to the bar that Chloe escaped to from Buchanan’s house, and then tasered the guy who was hitting on her. It was okay. If you don’t know what I’m talking about then that’s okay. I’m not going to bother to explain.

I’m obsessed with the song “The Operator” by Barbara Morgenstern.

That’s about it for now, I guess.

Being At Home

So I’ve been back for a little over a week and a half now. I can’t say that I’ve been incredibly productive, but things are chugging along fine with my Summer Projects.

Went to the gym on Monday for the Regul Speed Workout, which involves 40 minutes of the elliptical and then some weights. I think I’m liking the elliptical machine, as opposed to the running in Manhattan Beach that I’ve been doing for the past year. You get to watch TV, and it’s air-conditioned inside. That’s my kind of workout.

My attempts so far to cook for myself have been mixed. I was planning on eating sandwiches for lunch every day, but I ended up buying some bread which had really nice packaging, but turned out to be just plain horrible. The bread will sit on the counter for a few more days before I throw it away, I guess.

I also arranged to go to the HOW Design Conference in June. I think by June I should be sufficiently feeling like I need to get out of town for awhile. I’m a little skeptical about the conference, but some of it sounds interesting, and I’d like to see what other people in my industry are doing. if it turns out to be dumb, well, it’s in Las Vegas, so I’m sure I can find something with which to entertain myself.

That’s about it.
