Hey, Why Don’t You Go Back to China?

March 20th, 2007

When I was a teenager, I remember my family went out to dinner once. On the way back to the car, there were a couple of kids sitting in a car, and one of them shouted, “Hey, why don’t you go back to China?” We ignored them and left.

Well, twenty years later, you got your wish, little girl - I AM going back to China, although I was never really there in the first place. I’m off to Beijing this weekend to work with our programming team there for awhile. It should be really interesting on a variety of levels and it’s a big challenge I’m looking forward to working on.

I’ll try blogging and posting some photos from there if the Great Firewall of China doesn’t block rightonbro.com. Stay tuned.

Random Notes

March 8th, 2007

When making conversation with people from China, don’t ask if they have brothers and sisters. They don’t. It’s a government policy of one child per family. It becomes awkward when you ask.

Things to do on an airplane: Watch old episode of Miami Vice from iTunes. I think I’m going to get the rest of the season - it’s pretty good. DS Lite arrived in the mail today as well.

Don’t eat the chow fun in the United terminal at SFO. It’s expensive and not very good.

Buca di Beppo is a pretty good place to take a team of programmers out for dinner.

Tales From The Security Line

March 4th, 2007

Overheard from the security screening staff at the airport in San Francisco the other day:

“Is that a bottle or a burrito?”
“It’s a burrito.”
