You’ve Come a Long Way, Baby
Michele says I am worse than updating, so here’s one of the things I’ve been up to lately:

Wow, digital cameras have come a long way. I bought my first one from Fry’s Electronics back in 1999, an Olympus that did 640×480. Over the past few years I’ve carried around a Canon SD110 point-and-shoot, which was highly serviceable as well.
I decided a little while ago that I wanted to get back into photography, so I went and got a digital SLR a few weeks ago. Man this thing is awesome, and it’s only an entry-level camera. Toby and I went to Red Rock Canyon last week to shoot. It was super fun.
Just got a super-wide-angle lens today (the Sigma 10-22mm that Toby is using to produce some cool stuff) and I am looking forward to shooting even more. I have revived my Flickr photostream, so please subscribe to it if you’d like.

Nice. Let me know the next time you guys go out. I’d like to tag along and take some photos too.
We should go to Yosemite in the fall and shoot. We can stop by Sanger and say hi to the Rusca’s.
Hey it’s your old buddy Olympus, sure has been a while huh? Looks like times have changed for both of us. Anyway, I wanted to tell you how things have been since we parted ways.
Things started out okay. Your brother used me for a lot of stuff, including taking his first pictures of the house he and his wife now live in.
Fast forward a couple more years - by then he too had upgraded, and tried to sell me at a yard sale. A kid came by on a bike, picked me up, asked “how much?” and your brother said $20. The kid put me back down and rode away.
I then sat in the basement with various other unloved items… until recently your brother decided to hook me up a fresh set of batteries, test me out (I still work!) and this afternoon, give me to your 5 year old nephew-in-law.
My new owner gleefully proceeded to take many pictures of things *nearby* the intended subjects: headshots became partial torso shots, fishtank shots became fishtank stand shots, shots of fish became shots of just rocks at the bottom of the tank. And there were a great many “fingers of his left hand covering at least half the frame” shots.
The final shot of the day was a picture of him exposing his butt, taken by his sister. After this picture was happily shared with the family, I was confiscated, and they got in trouble and began crying. I am now sitting on top of the refrigerator.
Just thought you’d like to know! It seems we’ve taken rather different paths, but perhaps now and then, in between steller multi-megapixel wide-angle photos taken with your fancy new Nikon, you will think back and remember me, the one who gave you your start… sitting on the fridge after being used for butt pictures.
Oops I spelled “stellar” wrong. What do you want from me, I’m just a 640×480 camera.
I’m on a quest to find out who wrote this. I think this qualifies for the best comment on a blog, ever.
