Hello Again: R.E.M. “Accelerate”

#89.2 - R.E.M. - Living well is the best revenge
by lablogotheque

When I was younger, I was a big fan of R.E.M. My first album purchase was Document. I learned how to play guitar by playing along to R.E.M. songs. At some point, I owned the entire catalog plus a number of bootlegs and rarities, which are now all mostly gone since I lent somebody most of my collection and never got it back.

R.E.M. dropped off the radar for me, just after the release of Automatic for the People and somewhere around the release of “The Great Beyond.” I would periodically check in on what they were up to, but it just wasn’t that interesting anymore. I put them in the category of “sure I’ll check out their stuff, if it’s free to listen to on their site or on YouTube, but otherwise, meh.”

However, their new album (Accelerate) is really good…and check out the above video (and the rest of Vincent Moon’s Takeaways Shows videos with the band)…pretty amazing stuff.

If you enjoy the new album, you should check out the upcoming book, R.E.M.; HELLO, which is a collection of photographs by David Belisle who has toured with the band for the past 7 years. The photos have handwritten captions by the band. And if you are one of the first 250 people to pre-order it you get a free limited edition poster. Cool!

It was good to see you this weekend. It had been to long. Hopefully, befor eyou leave we can get together for dinner (for one last director’s club dinner). I am excited about your big move to Vegas. I think its good to take risks in life. You never know where your new road will take you! I hope we are able to come out over the 4th to visit but we might be in Amsterdam using those free airline tickets the hub won. Stay in touch dude. You will always be that cool cat who played the yellow guitar, to me.
